Day Hike

The team assembly at Star Mall, Mc Donalds at 0400. They rode in public jeepney going to Tanay, Rizal at Cubao terminal. It was led by Sir Jom Aquino and accompanied by Miss Avs Alfa. They are in charge to facilitate the applicants to have their endurance at Mt. Sembrano. They arrived at exactly 06:53 AM at Barangay Malaya, Pililla (Jump-off). They must log in the registration book with the amount of Php 50.00 per head and for tour guide honoraria is Php 500.00.

After they signed and register themselves, Sir Jom was assigned leaders, Team Leader; Justin Canda, Mid-Man; Janessa Mendoza, Sweeper; Jom Aquino, Scribe; FhelMendueta and an Aider;Mon Carlo Tinonas. Sir Jom asked the team if they know how use it. And He begun introduced the radio which will be used during the climb. Also, it was first hike for the applicants to climb together as “one” which made them excited to feel every step of their way.

Before they go, A-TL Mokkah led the prayer for divine guidance for their first climb together and Setting up their “strava” an application for device; which help an athlete to track and analyze every aspect of the activity. Also, it can be download at play store and app store. J By then, they took a groupie mandatory shot as requested by their TL Jewel.

The applicants decided that their buddy system will be a lady and gentlemen (Si malakas at Si maganda). Missy for Mon Carlo, Jewel for Carl, Mae for Raymond, Janessa for Jerrel and Fhel for Justin. One thing that I really like in this team was; No one is nag aarte, it easy for them to collaborate and to accompany each other by then. And they all agreed to have a rotation of buddy every climb to have a chance to know more each other’s. (Although close na silang lahat that built in GMT team building and socials )

The team felt their hingal factor. (baka nanibago lang?) also, the members required the applicants to carry 4Litters of water for their endurance training.  They hydrate themselves and take 5, the team proceed to Manggahan and to do their awakening “Palaman” led by Mr. Aquino and assisted by Ma’am Avs with the time of 08:10 in the morning.

After the “Palaman Session” they rehydrate again and take 5… the applicants bothered at Jewel’s 4 L of water that she brought. It would be heavier for her if she didn’t distribute proper weight rather to partake the weight. Well, quoted from her “din na nya uulitin yun

Though, our “palaman” is quietly tiring… selfie is a must and fun is still there!

Jewel’s knees quietly weaken and really tired. She really appreciates her buddy Carl for extending his hand for her.

Gladly Sir Jom offered her to exchange their bags when the north peak was near… thanks to sir Jom! That time she felt relieved!  And her energy was restored… The silent Jerrel, endured his heavy back pack.  He is also tired during the climb because of extra weight of his camera.

From here, they can see the south peak that give them motivation, happy feeling inside and they could take 5 in that place where they are. The trail is still assault. Sir Jom is very considerate person. He allow his team to take 5 and more also, He so kind, approachable and funny.  They loved Sir Jom!

Jeez! First peak was approaching! Here we come!!! …

The team reach the South peak at 11:45 in the Morning. As per Sir Jom, the applicants will continue until they reach the summit with the two tour guide. The two members will stay at south peak to guard our belongings 1 radio will be with them and the other two radios will be given to Team lead and sweeper.

Batch13 was really blessed with a good weather. Prior to their endurance they prayed for a good weather because some of them are afraid in intensive sun exposure. In the middle of their climb, Mon started to feel his leg awful then leg crumps… Janessa already radio to TL and Ground Crew what had happened. Carl to the rescue became an instant aider to Mon. Mon can’t really move so that, Sir Jom command the applicants that Mon and Missy need to go back at South peaks for safety. And the eight (8) applicants proceed to summit with 1 guide.

Summit has no clearing. The temperature was cold. Applicants took photographs/pictorials, kwentuhan and kulitan. Their hungry tummy gave a signal to descent. 

They took their lunch at exactly 12:12 noon in south peaks, sharing of food and trail Foods. While, in the middle of their lunch the rain slightly poured. But na wala rin sya kaagad. Then, kakai accompanied by Jerrel; She will lay her golden bars sa Pilapil. J ahahaha!. And kakai was dreaming for a “portable videt”. 😛 peace yow! Kaks  The ambiance was relaxing and with a cold weather. After our lunch break, 12:42 P.M The team started to descent to Manggahan and drink fresh buko. Then, went to jump off. BTW, They refused to visit Manggahan Falls and it is a team decision.

They reach the jump off Barangay Malaya at exactly 3:20 in the afternoon and took a bath to freshen up their exhausted bods.

We rode a jeepney and tricycle from JOP to Rambulls Bulalohan for our early dinner.

After we endure our endurance… Two cups of rice please! JJJ

And took a van going to Manila and at 8:00 in the evening we land in Manila.

A must to remember during dayhike:

  1. Bag should be lightweight.
  2. Head lamp is a must.
  3. Water discipline.
  4. Be prepared physically and mentally.
  5. Practice LNT principle. (Leave No Trace)

Jewel’s Pop-up Thought:

I realized that you have to trust yourself, have courage and stand to your own decisions, PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE may masasabi at masasabi sila tungkol sayo. Therefore, Let’s make it as a self-reminder to strive more and work well to achieve your goals. And some of the applicants are not physically fit; not because they are weak; they are just lack of physical activity/unhealthy life style. It wouldn’t be a hindrance to stop. That is why we have GMT training to cope up.  (so, when things bugging you up, duuhh…WE must don’t care!) As long as YOU are happy …keep on going!.
